Tudor Big Block reference 79180 is one of the brand's most emblematic automatic chronographs and among the first in the series to feature the robust Valjoux 7750 movement. This example boasts a 40 mm stainless steel case in excellent condition, with a tachymeter bezel that retains all its original black enamel. The reverse panda dial—silver with black sub-registers—is completely original and very well preserved. The solid link Oyster bracelet 78360, with correct 589 endlinks and R2 clasp, is also in excellent condition. The watch includes it's punched warranty papers, wallet, and hang tag, adding significant collector appeal.
Case: the case of the Tudor Big Block ref. 79180 is round and constructed in stainless steel, measuring 40 mm in diameter. Known for its robust and angular profile, it features thick lugs and prominent crown guards—a signature of the "Big Block" nickname. The screw-down caseback enhances water resistance, while the black aluminum tachymeter bezel remains intact, retaining all of its original paint and brushing, underscoring the watch's excellent preservation.
Dial: the dial is silver with contrasting black sub-registers in a "reverse panda" layout, giving the chronograph a highly legible and sporty appearance. It includes a 30-minute counter, 12-hour counter, and running seconds, arranged in a classic tri-compax format. Applied hour markers and luminous-filled hands add depth and visibility. Movement: inside beats the Valjoux 7750, an automatic chronograph movement known for its durability and reliability. Introduced in the 1970s, the 7750 features a cam-lever chronograph system and offers approximately 48 hours of power reserve. It operates at 28,800 vibrations per hour and contains 25 jewels.
