The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonphase ref. 345.08.09, known among collectors as the “Speedymoon”, is one of the most distinctive Speedmaster variations of the 1980s. Introduced in 1985, the reference was the first Speedmaster to combine a moon-phase indication with a pointer date, while retaining the instantly recognisable aesthetic architecture of the Speedmaster Professional. Production was particularly limited, with approximately 1,300 unnumbered examples.

Dating from 1986 and preserved in excellent condition, this example features the familiar 42 mm asymmetrical stainless-steel case, black tachymeter bezel and black dial. At 12 o’clock is the defining calendar register, combining a peripheral pointer-date scale with a blue moon-phase disc decorated with a golden moon and stars. The luminous hour markers display an even, warm-toned appearance.

The watch is powered by the manually wound Omega Calibre 866, developed from the Calibre 861 family to incorporate the calendar and astronomical indications. It is fitted with an Omega ref. 1447 stainless-steel bracelet with 805 end links and is accompanied by its Omega box and International Guarantee, forming a particularly significant period set.

Case:the 42 mm stainless-steel case follows the asymmetrical construction associated with the Speedmaster Professional, incorporating protection for the crown and chronograph pushers along the right-hand side. A black tachymeter bezel frames the dial, while the screw-back carries the characteristic Speedmaster seahorse medallion. Brushed and polished surfaces articulate the familiar angular profile and lyre-style lug geometry.

Dial:the black dial retains the functional character of the Moonwatch while introducing a distinctive four-indication arrangement. The chronograph registers are accompanied by small seconds, while the register at 12 o’clock combines a 1–31 pointer-date scale with the moon-phase display. Its blue disc, golden moon and stars provide the principal colour accent. The luminous hour markers have acquired a warm tone, complemented by highly legible white hands. “Speedmaster” and “Professional” signatures complete the dial.

Movement:Omega Calibre 866 is a manually wound mechanical movement developed from the Calibre 861 family. It expands the established Speedmaster chronograph architecture through the addition of a pointer-date mechanism and moon-phase indication. This movement configuration is closely associated with the first-generation Speedmaster Professional Moonphase and is one of the defining technical features of reference 345.08.09.
