The Omega Speedmaster “Dark Side of the Moon” Apollo 8 is one of the most emotional and visually striking tributes in the modern Speedmaster lineup. Launched in honor of the historic 1968 Apollo 8 mission—the first manned flight to orbit the far side of the Moon—this watch is a stunning fusion of technical innovation and storytelling.
Its black zirconium oxide ceramic case is both light and highly resistant to scratches, giving it a bold and modern silhouette. The standout feature is the skeletonized dial, laser-engraved to replicate the Moon’s surface, with a duality of textures: the near side visible from Earth, and the far side only seen from space—also visible through the sapphire caseback.
The vibrant yellow accents on the chronograph hands and “Speedmaster” text recall the color schemes used in spacecraft instrumentation. Inside beats the manual-winding Caliber 1869, a variant of the legendary 1861, now finished with lunar texture on its bridges. This reference is paired with a black perforated leather strap, stitched in yellow to match the thematic color accents.
An outstanding piece for those who value heritage, performance, and poetic design, this example is new, unworn, and offered as a complete full set.
Case: the 44.25 mm black ceramic case (ZrO₂) provides exceptional durability with minimal weight. It features a polished and brushed finish, with a fixed ceramic tachymeter bezel. The chronograph pushers and crown are also ceramic, maintaining aesthetic continuity.
Dial: the skeletonized dial is perhaps the most visually distinctive feature. Created via laser ablation, it mimics the lunar surface, while retaining legibility thanks to white markers and yellow details. The sub-dials display running seconds (9 o'clock), a 30-minute counter (3 o'clock), and a 12-hour counter (6 o'clock). The dial side represents the near side of the moon; the back shows the far side.
Movement: Omega’s Caliber 1869 is a manual-winding chronograph movement, evolved from the famous 1861 but with refined finishing. It features laser-ablated bridges to match the lunar surface theme and a power reserve of 48 hours. The chronograph is controlled via a traditional cam-lever system.
