The Omega Speedmaster Professional ref. 3590.50 is one of the most desirable early 1990s Moonwatch references, preserving the classic aesthetics of the watches worn during the Apollo missions. Produced in 1991, it houses the hand-wound caliber 861, the direct descendant of the legendary caliber 321, known for its copper-colored finish and robust cam-actuated chronograph construction.
The 42 mm stainless steel case features the iconic black tachymeter bezel and hesalite crystal. The black dial with three subdials retains its original tritium lume, now aged to a warm creamy patina that enhances its vintage appeal. The caseback is engraved with the famous inscription: “Flight-Qualified by NASA for all Manned Space Missions – The First Watch Worn on the Moon.” Accompanied by an Omega Extract from the Archives, this example is a cornerstone for any serious space-watch collection.
Case: round stainless steel case with screw-down engraved caseback and black tachymeter bezel. Classic asymmetrical lyre-lug design with alternating brushed and polished finishes.
Dial: matte Black dial with three subdials for 30-minute counter, 12-hour counter and running seconds. Original tritium hour markers aged to a creamy patina. Functions: Hours and Chronograph with tachymeter scale.
Movement: the manual-wind caliber 861, introduced in 1968, replaced the 321 with a cam-lever chronograph system. Known for reliability and durability, it powered the Speedmaster throughout much of the modern Moonwatch era, reinforcing its legendary status in space exploration history.
